Word reaches King Evander, who was too old for battle and had stayed behind, that his only son and heir, Pallas was slain by Turnus in battle. Pallas died after bringing great honor to his name on the battle field, yet Evander still can not shake the feeling that by sending his son in his place he sentenced his son to die. Pallas was not the only Arcadian sent to war though and Evander must prepare to welcome home the other warriors and the dead.
lyrics
The winds through these trees, speak in a shaky voice.
They carry regrets and sorrow and bring a mournful chill.
And word travels fast, and bad news the fastest of all.
No longer talk of Pallas the brave,
no longer talk of all the warriors he slayed.
Just open weeping, for Pallas my son, what have you done?
What do you think they'll say of me?
They'll shout it out, they'll shout it out.
"A man so past his prime, sent his own son to die!"
Oh it echoes in my halls.
Grab all your torches, empty those sconces,
line 'em up on the road let us welcome our heroes.
To think your mother is spared, and death took her long ago.
Pallas oh Pallas, you promised me so!
Pallas oh Pallas, too few years have you known!
The pyres are waiting, the procession is set,
filled with regret.
What do you think they'll say of me?
They'll shout it out, they'll shout it out.
"A man so past his prime, sent his own son to die!"
Oh it echoes in my halls.
The wind through these trees, spoke in a shaky voice,
with regret and sorrow they brought a mournful chill.
And word travels fast, and bad news the fastest of all.
And what we talk of is Pallas the brave!
And what we talk of are the warriors he slayed!
Just joyful weeping for Pallas my son,
your fight is won.
