about

Ascanius was left "in charge" by his father Aeneas while he was seeking help from Evander inland. Their fort has been besieged by Turnus and the Rutulian forces, among others, and as is typical the bravery of youth shines through in young Ascanius's words. Ascanius has never experienced battle before but is an excellent archer, piercing a Rutulian through the temples with a single arrow (his first ever kill) after receiving taunts and threats. Still to young for battle, Apollo gives Ascanius his blessing but advises him not to partake any further in the battle.

lyrics

Been sitting idle here for weeks, no more movement that most trees.
Surrounded besieged, entrenched and encircled.
With orders not to meet their attack until my father has come back
with Arcadian levies, the men of Evander

The cloud of dust proceeded the sound, of marching feet along this road.
Turnus’s men no doubt seething with anger, a palpable anger
I look out o’er the eastern wall, and what do I see?
I loudly proclaim, I hereby decree

This is your last chance, this is your last chance to flee
This is your dying day, this is my destiny.

Like a lion in a cage, I've been poked I've been prodded I just want to stretch out these claws,
and sink into your flesh
so you choose to mock brave men with proud words?
Is that wise to do? This arrow flies for you

This is your last chance, this is your last chance to flee
This is your dying day, this is my destiny.
